A humanitarian project providing hygiene supplies and improved sanitation facilities for displaced families in schools across Zgharta during the war in Lebanon.
What we did
During the escalation of the war in Lebanon, many families were displaced and temporarily sheltered in schools across the Zgharta area. In response to this situation, the Rotaract Club of Zgharta Zawie, in collaboration with Rotary and Interact, launched a humanitarian initiative to support the affected families. While many organizations were focusing on food and shelter, our club identified hygiene and sanitation as an urgent need that required attention. As part of the project, water heaters were installed in the bathrooms of four schools hosting displaced families—Zgharta Public Primary School (TTF), Zgharta Public High School, Rachiine Public Primary School, and Rachiine Public High School—allowing families to access hot water for bathing and daily hygiene. In addition, large quantities of hygiene supplies were distributed across the schools, including cleaning products, personal hygiene items, and sanitation materials. The project directly supported around 1,500 displaced individuals, helping improve living conditions during a difficult time. The initiative was made possible through the collaboration of Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact, as well as the support of the National Disaster Relief Fund, with club members volunteering to help purchase, transport, and distribute the materials.
